South Africa 2016-17

Home Sweet Home

We loved out home in Pretoria.  Sitting on a mountain with breathtaking views.  As usual in Pretoria, this was a gated community. The nice thing was, the community large and while there was a fence that probably would have made President Trump proud there was no fencing within the community.  With no dogs or cats allowed, so there was wildlife all over. Just beautiful to walk and mountainbike in this park.

Great place to work on a laptop:

Or at night, at our fireplace on the veranda

Mountainbiking right from Home

Friends had their private fenced moutainbike park adjunct. We had great rides. Once a year these approx. eight kilometers were connected into the trails in our community for a race. No hanging around the house. This MTB heaven started just off our driveway and allowed activity breaks that kept me productive.

Nickname for this section was Trail of Bones:

My Hobby: Go out for Lunch

Great outdoor restaurants in the area.

Here are giraffes watching us eating:

Motorcycle Tours

Cellular data reception is better than in most places in the US. Even in Lesotho and Mozambique is was sufficiently fast to get work done. So, I sometimes I took my laptop on the road and fitting in weekends and holidays I was able to take amazing tours on my dual sport Yamaha.

Weekend Trips

We loved our weekend trips into the amazing nature just outside of Pretoria.

Some problems horseback riding. My horse did not stop when I saw the griaffe, but went right on:

I tried to get the hourse away from the giraffe that it just stirred up:

Holidays

For the Winter holiday we toured around South Africa. Don’t tell the rental agency that I took the family through the Kalahari desert with their compact sedan.
