Caprock Canyons State Park Information
A weekend camping trip to the Caprock Canyons State Park. End of August 1999 Pictures were taken with my NIKON Coolpix 950 in normal mode (light compression). They were reduced from 1600 by 1200 to about 800 by 600. You can see them by clicking on the small representation below.

About 100 miles in the North East of Lubbock the friendly Texan sky turned naughty. Some lightning at the horizon did not really invite camping.
A brief hailstorm filled up the wadies, and sticks began to walk.
The weather made the sunset truly spectacular
After a night of howling coyotes (and a snoring Collin), the next morning was just terrific.
Down in the canyons, the heat is merciless. Yes, my thermometer shows 109 degrees Fahrenheit. This was at 11 A.M. and the main heat was about to come.
Having been to the Caprock before, I know that water is essential. Crossing the semi dry creeks is especially tough. You get wet and muddy, and horseflies are attracted by your sweat. |
||
Savety: I would not recommend beginners to bike in the Caprocks. On fast downhill passages, sand can redirect the front wheel very easy. Deep cliffs in the trail can appear quite fast on a downhill section. |
